Urban Athlete Challenge – Porsche Design Sport by adidas
This week I got invited to Berlin to be part of the Urban Athlete Challenge to test the new Fall/Winter 16/17 Porsche Design Sport by adidas collection. Urban Adventure is their key inspiration for this season – representing everything that the city has to offer when it comes to outdoor training.
As you might have noticed it’s not the first season I’m testing the Porsche Design Sport by adidas material and collections, but this time I also got the chance to meet Gert Benz – the Vice President of Style Collaborations from Adidas (also the ones with Y3, Raf Simons, etc.) and Jacques Chassaing – the Senior Design Director of Porsche Design.
The two forward thinking “boys” explained the new technical advancements and fashion inspirations for the upcoming season. The whole collection is inspired by men like me and you – urban, fashionable, sporty, but there’s so much more to it – as you can read below.
THE KEY FEATURES OF THE COLLECTION:
The Glacier Camou print:
Inspired by the graduated, organic surface of an over turned iceberg – this print perfectly reflects the coolness and rawness of winter’s elements. My favorite pattern from Porsche Design Sport so far and something I will integrate in my street style too.
The innovative reflective technology:
This has been integrated across apparel, footwear and accessories – it’s an intelligent, cutting-edge innovation in the fabrics and illuminates when hit by light. Perfect for your winter outdoor workout in the city!
The PDS UltraBOOST trainer:
The exciting evolution of adidas’ most famed running trainer. Proven adidas technologies including BOOST™ and Primeknit were elevated with design elements like leather cages, and new for the Fall/Winter, they added reflective yarn and detailing for superior function. Super comfy sneakers for everyday and for me one of the must have sneakers for the season.
Jacques also told me that the classic Porsche 911 is still a major inspiration for the design team of the company. The corners and edges of every item, wether it’s a sneaker or a shirt, are as precise and purposeful like the surface of the evergreen 911.
The event was all about the new collection and the look and feel. To also sense the feel of the materials and cuts I went for a 5 kilometer night run with the team of adidas and Porsche Design Sport in the first part of the Urban Athlete Challenge. The comfort of the Porsche Design Sport line is as highend as in the previous collections, but with the cool reflective feature I also felt pretty safe while running through Berlin’s roads – even the busy ones along the East Side Gallery.

The next morning I was off to a high intensity rooftop training session – as part of the Urban Athlete Challenge, to test the essentials from the Outdoor Training (ODT) collection. The pieces feature moisture-managing fabrics, which I really needed on this exposed sundeck to still look good in front of the whole crew (and photographers) while trying to keep up with the speed of our instructor. See for yourself – it worked quite well!
