if you are in munich these days, make sure to check out glenmorangie’s new “unseen” pop up bar. after the success in 2015 in london now munich was chosen to be the place for the speakeasy concept.
the hidden speakeasy bars were very famous in the 20’s during the prohibition, when traditionally unlicensed liquor was sold. now you can taste best single malt whisky made in scotland with a traditional recipe since over 100 years. for all the whisky newbies – single malt means the whisky is only coming from one distillery (and isn’t mixed) and made exclusively with malted grain. in glenmorangie’s case the grain they use is just barley, which means it’s a scotch whisky.
yesterday evening we were invited to the pre-opening party of the unseen bar and travelled to munich for this event. i tried different cocktail variations made with whisky together with some blogger friends in the unseen bar yesterday and i have to say i really like the taste of the cocktail mixes they created. but as you maybe already know i usually only drink alcohol on special occasions and if i do, i really only enjoy the good stuff – so you can trust me on these ones.
for this special project, they also created a collaboration with the innovative british high end sunglass creators from finlay & co. they designed and produced wooden shades made of the glenmorangie white oak wooden casts. these casts are actually only used twice in the distillery and because every cast is different also every pair of sunglasses is unique, limited and individually numbered. i had the chance to meet dane – one of the founders of the company, who told me he also had the chance to see the distillery of glenmorangie which should be very impressive. i hope i get the chance to visit this place also in the fiuture. dane also mentioned that working with the old oak casts was highly inspiring, because the vapor of glenmorangie was all over the place.
for the outfit i chose a classic suit with a turtleneck (my favorite item these last weeks), which seemed like the appropriate way to dress to drink whisky. only for the shoes i went for a more modern take with these lightweight ones from gram shoes.
when you are wondering why there are always giraffes around the glenmorangie brand. the brand has the tallest stills in scotland. their long copper necks stand at 5.14 metres (16ft 10 1/4 inches), the same height as a fully grown adult giraffe!
now hurry and check the bar for malts, mixed drinks and musik from today on until saturday:
