ON WHITE – HEYDAR ALIYEV CENTER
Is there anything better then a white wall for bloggers & fashion? Nope – there isn’t, as nothing makes fashion stand out more then the perfect white background. Here I found the perfect white wall at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku.
The tabula rasa is the perfect location for staging new outfits. My personal love for white walls started already early in school.
Can you remember when the school photographer was showing up. He placed you in front of the ugliest wall he possibly could find in the building. Or even better sometimes he brought his pink dove shed background to make you look even more pissed, when hanging properly framed on your grandma’s wall. Wish I would have told him to find a white background for me back in the days!
In this case Zaha Hadid really created the perfect playground for bloggers. It would actually also be a perfect playground for skateboarders and BMX riders, but unfortunately the security there is quite strict.
I got whistled back by a security guard while climbing just a little on this giant organic sculpturelike wall. By the way: I was climbing with my new TEVA Sandals and turns out the sole is really grippy and the straps hold up very well.
The Heydar Aliev Center houses a conference hall, a gallery hall and a museum. The project is intended to play an integral role in the intellectual life of the city, but it seemed rather empty during our visits. The consequence of this ain’t only bad, because all the white floors are still white (as opposed to Zaha Hadid’s University Library building in Vienna).
Located close to the city center, the site plays a pivotal role in the redevelopment of Baku. Baku is really the city of contrasts and it seems to be in constant evolution and development. You can read more about it in my first post from the capital of Azerbaijan: Flames without dust.
Do you remember, that last time I told you I never feel well inside Zaha’s buildings? It was when I visited one of her first buildings in Europa, the fire station in Weil am Rhein. Well, it’s still the same here – you simply can’t find a cozy corner in the Heydar Aliyev Center.
But from the outside this monument is an absolute masterpiece. And maybe meanwhile Zaha is already reborn in a world where the beings don’t need coziness, but just freaking awesome looking futuristic architecture. I have to go there to for some outfit posts!
Fun fact:
Doesn’t matter where we travel – either it’s in Cappadocia, Ireland or now Azerbaijan. There is always a dog, that shows up and thinks he is our kid! Maybe we should get the message by now?
