It’s not just the first time for Mr. Raf Simons at NYFW Men’s – but also for me. The first day was pretty exciting so far.

Day 1 was dedicated to “NMD” – New York Men’s Day. This is the big stage for uprising talents, that get to showcase their collections for the first time to an international crowd. The number one theme (of course) was politics, or more likely the political issues the US are facing right now.

Let me introduce you to my favorite outfits (an messages) from today:

Insecurity Confidence

I came across the Wood House Instagram Account already a year ago. The designs with lots of different cuts and materials caught my eyes back then. Now the collection features an array of bold colors with huge textual prints (you can even spot some 90’s inspired logo mania with huge Wood House prints). But then there’s also a line of looks, that’s less colorful and shines through different textures and materials. All in all it might not be the most cohesive collection, but there’s many interesting and very up to date pieces.

Traces of warm light

This collection shows a softness through colors and cuts. It feels like it’s coming straight from a retro Kodak film, that transforms everything into a warm 70’s atmosphere. Materials like velvet underlined this collection’s feeling even more. The collection isn’t so much about individual stand out pieces (as opposed to Wood House), but more about a showcase of a softer men’s look, that wasn’t so popular during the last year. We’ll see if this is just a trend in their collection or will transform into a bigger movement during NYFW!

Fall 2017

Influenced by New York this collection really seems like a mirror of the melting pot of different influences and cultures. It feels like a combination of last years’ Post Soviet hype mixed together with a more softer and sensual silhouette (see the knotted pieces and draped forms). They describe it as the suavity of a Parisian, the curiosity of a Brooklyn native and you also can find some influences from the designer’s home country Poland in the collection.

For me this was the most recognizable and inspiring presentation from NYFW today! You can see lots of different layers, textures and patterns – but all the looks are styled to absolute perfection. Every look consists of a layering of individually strong stand out pieces, that still form a cohesive outfit. The details of every piece are quite interesting, but even in the combination they don’t get overpowered by one another. I hope to get my hands on some of the pieces of this collection soon!
