The Pink Lagoon of Las Coloradas is literally a photographer’s “wet dream” ;-) During a recent trip to Mexico it was clear we had to stop here for a photoshoot.
The color actually comes from red plankton and brine shrimp, who are dying the otherwise normal water with their chemicals. The fairytale-like landscape is also adorned with huge mountains of salt from a nearby production facility, located at one shore of the lake.
To make the whole scenery even more surreal there are lots of pink flamingos in the area. Make sure to say “No” to the self-certified “guides”, who will permanently ask: “Do you want to see Flamingos”?
I wanted to reply ” Nope, we are searching for dolphins”, but we just drove a little further down alongside the countless lakes and easily found the flamingos on our own.
