“My main inspiration are prostitutes.” Hvala Ilija is definitely one of the most promising designers in Vienna these days. Learn all about his journey and where he draws his inspiration from!
I met Ilija (who wants to be called Hvala Ilija, his civil name being Ilija Milicic) for the first time in 2015. Two years ago his first collection named “Blume aus dem Gemeindebau” was presented – the title literally translated saying: “Flower from the council flats”, suggesting the beauty to be found there.
You can see some of the pieces from this collection in the fashion editorial from our collab.
The “Romanntik” collection
Hvala Ilija still calls his style “hood soft”, which shows that his roots are in the “hood”, but he transforms these harsh surroundings into a soft and emotional aesthetic. This year he has gained more popularity and was also featured in American Vogue with his latest collection “Romanntik”.
The collection has a strong Eastern European style and pays tribute to one of his main inspirations – like he noted in the interview – prostitutes and the red light district.
Make sure to check his sensual video for the “Romanntik” collection.
In the video you can already get a sneek peak into what’s coming next: Hvala Ilija’s new collection is coming in June 2017! I can’t wait to see what he shows.
?️ You can already get yourself tickets for the fashion show of “Angewandte” at 13th of June!

Music always inspired him and for this video we decided to use music by Ama Lou. She’s an artist he admires and who he also styled for Hunger Magazine.
