A tasteful two day trip to a gourmet festival at the Wörthersee lake showed me once more: Austria does have many places worth a visit. But how to properly travel to a lake? The new Fiat 124 Spider is a pretty good decision.
The Wörthersee with it’s mediterranean feel is mostly known for big and fancy summer parties. But since I’m more of a party pooper (especially when it comes to big ones) I do prefer a good dinner with friends or my wife.
The Wörthersee region started a new gourmet festival called “See-Ess-Spiele” – especially for party poopers like me, who want to get good food instead. This way you can enjoy culinary delights in a peaceful and relaxing surrounding. The date was chosen in Spring time, when it’s much more quiet around the lake.
The taste experience
I had the chance to dine at the Castle Hotel Miralago. This beautiful small castle might be the most beautiful place at the whole lake. So it’s worth a visit by itself, but the food makes it even more special.
We were served Haute cuisine by Erwin Windhaber (2 Hauben, Gault Millau), Leonard Cernko (3 Hauben, Gault Millau) and Markus Becker. They got invited by the host of Miralago Johannes Muchitsch. The chefs had their fun when we asked for a Vegetarian Menu – since in Haute cuisine it’s still not common to eat vegetarian. But in the end they came up with a really surprising and delicious 6 course menu.
I especially liked the artichoke tomato course with dried mushrooms – all combined to a divine structure of different textures and tastes. Wine from the local surrounding accomplished the menu to a more than perfect evening on the lake.
The Fiat 124 Spider
Of course before the dinner you have to “earn” it ;-) So I hit the road with the new Fiat 124 Spider. The serpentines around the lake are perfect to get an impression how the car reacts in motion. Okay, it’s obvious – I had some fun! Indeed it’s quite an experience – especially when the sun is shining and you can use the 124 Spider to it’s full potential – with an open roof!
The new version of the 124 Spider is related to it’s iconic first appearance in 1966. The car is really compact (like a roadster should be) and best suitable for having fun while riding. So it’s obviously not a car for transporting things. In this respect, it follows in the footsteps (or tyre tracks) of the European roadsters of the past decade such as the Alfa Romeo Spider, Smart Roadster and Renault Wind – let’s hope it doesn’t become one of the examples of cars that came and went as they did and enjoys a respectable duration on the market. It only has a rather small stow-away space in the back (we fit in two small carry-on pieces of luggage and one backpack).
Well, for fashion bloggers it’s really just useful for a weekend trip (unless you have all your clothes waiting for you in your vacation home like Karl Lagerfeld does) ;-)
