We males are usually known for playing it safe when it comes to colors. Maybe with one exception: Sportswear. That’s when we can look like an image from a wild LSD trip your 1969 generation Mum always warned you about.
But in this post I didn’t want to emulate sportswear colors and instead focus on colors that are usually not associated with male perceptions. I’d call those retro colors (instead of the wild neon outdoor color range).
Color of the Seventies
These colors bring back a Seventies feeling – not that I was around those days… but with the colors of the Seventies you can’t go wrong these days. Burnt Orange, Turquoise, Rose and Brickwall Red are perfect companions when fighting the monochrome outfit world. And of course the evergreen indigo blue – especially in jeans jackets – brings you into the right retro mood.
On that retro wave
To enhance the reto color it helps to get the colors combined into a psychedelic print like on this Aigner sweater. Martine Rose is today’s most influential designer when it comes to retro feelings. Even her logo was inspired by an vintage Jacket she found at a flea market.
On this insulated, puffy jeans jacket shown here she definitely got inspired by some vintage cuts as well. The hourglass shape on this slightly oversized silhouette is probably a little bit like really good jazz music. You need to listen to it more than once to fall in love, but then you do it hits you hard.
