Upgrade time – I had the chance to stay at the ultimate luxury suite at the Mercure Mandalay Hill Resort. And I felt like a Burmese King.
Royal Palace
The Mercure Mandalay Hill Resort is located at the foot of Mandalay hill – and has two parts. One part is a modern high-rise building with a panoramic view over Mandalay and the other part is a smaller complex of wooden buildings, that feel like an ancient royal palace. This secluded area is dedicated to the Spa, which comes with two private Villas attached. In the pictures of this blogpost you can see the “Spa Villa”, which was our home for 5 nights – and also the spa and pool area of the hotel.
Fairytale World
After passing by the modern building and public pool area you can already see the precious temple like buildings of the Spa retreat at the Mercure Mandalay Hill Resort. When entering this area you immediately feel transferred to a Myanmar fairytale world. The whitewashed stepping stones which lead the way to the villas are planted inside a Koi-filled pond and have lotus flowers carved on it.
Kingsize
The Spa Villa has 635 sq feet and feels like a temple hall, but considering it’s enormous size is still very cozy. Maybe because the main material is wood, which is carved in different intricate patterns. There are two big twin doors to the pond, which can be fully opened. When closed the light shimmers through the colourful glass window inlets. A big King size bed hass a shrine like appeal with lots of golden wall decorations.
The bathroom is another highlight. It comes equipped with a private steam room, a huge mosaic-clad bathtub, an indoor and an extra outdoor shower and again with lots of space. My favourite was obviously the full-size golden mirror (nothing’s worse than a hotel without full body mirrors ;-)).
King life
When you are still not feeling like a king yet (which is pretty much impossible) the staff will read every wish from your lips. We tested everything from room service (pizza!) to the Spa treatments and the daily turndown service. Everything was exquisitely done and with the world-renown friendliness of the Myanmar people. I can’t say I haven’t been spoiled for life! – more about the hotel here.
