Are you afraid of showing your soft side?
These days everyone seems to be strong and shows off what they are capable of. Pretending to be busy and tough af is the new mantra – especially on Social Media. But deep inside everyone has a soft side and the harder the shell seems the softer the inside is very often.
Since I grew up in an all female household I was always empowered to show my emotions and also stand by my soft side. I could never keep up with the inflated loud male culture full of ego fights. So it was natural for me to also choose a girl as first real friend when growing up.
I learned pretty soon, that (especially) women are much stronger than they sometimes look on the outside and vice versa for men. So showing a soft side sometimes might be misunderstood for weakness – but don’t be fooled. People with a soft and gentle attitude are much stronger than the vulgar ones. I’m bored and annoyed by loud screaming macho men, wether it’s in politics or in management positions. Let’s hope the future is female also in this regard (or at least soft men will take over).
So what has this inner softness now to do with fashion you might ask? Well, the gender blurring unisex trend is bigger than ever and you can emancipate your wardrobe by wearing women’s handbags or skirts as shown in collections by Balenciaga and Jil Sander.
Maybe softness was also something Bruce Lee once meant when saying:
“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.
Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.”
