Retro collabs are the big thing now. Take a brand that was big in the 90’s, ad a brand that is big now and – et voilá – you have a new hype. This is what Esprit did with Opening Ceremony!
Another convenient element is that you don’t have to create anything really new – you just use the 80’s or 90’s archive and you are good to go ;-)
This outfit is a perfect combination of the above mentioned. Esprit just introduced a collab with Opening Ceremony and it’s a big 80-90’s party hit. Both brands actually have their roots in California, but started at different times. The colorful collection of their collaboration celebrates the colorful past of Esprit and shines new light on the once non-conform label.
Both companies are pretty inspiring looking at their journeys. Doug Tompkins, the founder of The North Face and later Esprit, sold the first Esprit pieces from his old VW bus. Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, the two friends from Berkeley who run Opening Ceremony, started with a small shop in NYC after an inspiring trip to Hong Kong and now they are amongst the first addresses when it comes to contemporary luxury clothes (and not just in NYC). And now their journeys interlace with this rad collection!
